That Luang in Vientiane
That Luang in Vientiane is a national symbol, also sacred monument in this country. That Luang looks like a fortress surrounded by high walls. It features two temples with the primary stupa, the best of which is covered with gold leaf, standing 150 feet talls.
The beautiful architecture is in Laos style, influenced by Buddhist beliefs – these include -gilded, red-lacquer doors and pointed lesser stupas, a lot of Buddha images with beautiful flowers and animal images.
Locals people say it was built as early as the 3 century to house a breastbone of the Lord Buddha brought to Laos by an Indian missionary. He named Vientiane the capital after Luang Prabang in the mid-16th century.
That Luang was damaged by the Burmese, Siamese and Chinese during invasions in the 18th to19th centuries then was left alone until French colonial times. Restoration work was finished in 1900 by the French , again with the help of the French for a second time in 1930
Every year, when the Boun Festival is held in Vientiane, a large crowd of followers come to town from all over Laos, neighbouring countries. The festival is considered important Buddhist celebration in Laos with a lots activities going on for 3 days and 3 nights. The primary event is always held at That Luang, thousands of people come to pay respect to the stupa and to enjoy the colourful event that includes parades, live music

Wat Phu in Champasak of Laos
Wat Phu (mountain temple), is located on a hillside, it offers views over the surrounding land, Mekong River. Travellers who appreciate art, history will be amazed by the magnificent workmanship in that ruined Khmer temple complex, barays, lintels, pediments, terrace, doorways, courtyard, sanctuary, walls, shrine,and palaces.
There is also a natural spring that is believed by locals to emit holy water. Older than the great temple complex at Angkor Wat in Cambodia, Wat Phu was named a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2002.

Wat Phu is considered one of old archaeological sites in Laos. A temple in the site was constructed around the 5th century however most buildings found in the complex are from the 11th to 13th centuries. Among many of the outstanding carvings there are the Indra, the Hindu god of war, storms, and rainfall, riding a three-headed elephant and Vishnu riding on a garuda, an eagle.
Temple Admission Passes
To travel temples and different sites within the Angkor Park, you have to have a valid admission pass, called an 'Angkor Pass'. Admission passe is purchased at the primary entrance located on the road to Angkor Wat, and one-day passes may be obtained at the 2th entrance gate on the road from the airport.
The cost of the passes are about $21 for a one-day pass, $42 for a 3 day pass, and $65 for a week pass. A 3 day pass is valid for any 3 days within a one week period, and a week pass is valid for any week within a a month period. For 3 day and week passes, a passport-sized photos are required when buying the pass. For those without a photo, they will take your photo for free, but it can take a while if there're alot of traveller buying passes. Welcom to Laos to discover all
