The Magha Puja festival
This festival is celebrated on the full moon and it commemorates the preaching of Buddha to about 1255 enlightened monks who went to hear him "none -prior summons".

The Sikhotabong Festival
The religious festival takes about five hours to drive from the south of Vientiane on February 4 to February 7 at the Sikhottabong stupa, It is located about 7 kilometers south of Thakhek.
The Wat Phou festival
The Wat Phou festival is organized at the pre-Angkorian Wat Phou site every year in Champassak province about 12 hours to drive south of Vientiane. This festival is held on the full moon of the 3rd month of lunar calendar. A trade fair of products from the southern province of Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam, All of the countries are also held.

The Elephant Festival
This festival is held annually in Xayaboury province. Over 60 elephants and their mahouts come to the other areas gather to demonstrate working techniques. Hotels and homestay are available.
Festival dates can be flexible as they are tied to the lunar calendar. A lot of smaller festivals occur in the villages and many provinces around the country every year depend on the ethnic group which live in the area.
